A big thanks to my two fine models/footballers Johnny Fitzgerald for Kerry GAA and Troy Power wearing the Dublin GAA jersey. They togged out on a bitterly cold day in Croke Park for this photo shoot. Incidentally both boys have both Dublin and Kerry connections. Thanks so much to Paudie and Colm at the GAA Museum for their wonderful hospitality.
Many a battle has been fought between these two counties for the ultimate GAA prize the Sam Maguire Cup. Kerry and Dublin have and intense respect and rivalry for each other. Dublin have won the cup twenty-five times, Kerry thirty seven. There are so many Dublin/Kerry connections. Brian Mullins who is one of Dublins greatest midfielders is a nephew of Bill Casey who played centre back for Kerry in the thirties and forties.
Both of Cian O Sullivan of Kilmacud Crokes parents hail from the Kingdom and what about Bernard Brogan and his brother Alan ? Sure their Ma is from Listowel. No wonder the Dubs play such great football.
” Hey Maureen I seen your art down Killarney !Beautiful! Not only did it remind me of Dub v Kerry rivalry but how much a game of football as a kid meant! It was like the World Cup final anytime I played as a kid. You captured that. Yer work captures the small beautiful moments we cannot pinpoint “.
